What is a DBA?

In some cases you will want to have a name for your business that is different than your legal name.

This could be in situations where you are part of a franchise, or you operate in different locations under one big business name, or someone already legally is using the name you wanted, for example. A DBA may be applicable; it stands for "Doing Business As." Bank of America has an excellent short article that goes into a variety of reasons you'd want to create a "Doing Business As" (a DBA) name for your business.
